Second Year Residents

Margaret Murray

Margaret Murray, MD, MS, MPH is from Durham, North Carolina and obtained her undergraduate degree from Duke University. She went to medical school at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and then completed a Master's of Global Health at Duke. She completed a family medicine residency at Eastern Virginia Medical Center in 2022. She joined our program in 2022 and earned her MPH at UC Berkeley in 2023. Between her first and second year of OEM residency, she completed a one-year research fellowship studying how climate change has affected various health conditions in California firefighters during the twenty-first century. She returned to OEM residency in July 2024. Her current area of study is the impact of climate change on high-risk occupational populations. 

Rupesh Patel

Rupesh Patel, MD, PhD, MPH, is from Chicago, Illinois and obtained his undergraduate degree in biochemistry and molecular biology and Spanish language and literature from Boston University. Subsequently, he obtained his MD from Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine and his PhD in biological and biomedical sciences from Harvard University. He completed his intern year in internal medicine at Scripps Green Hospital. He joined our program in 2023 and was recently awarded his MPH from UC Berkeley in 2024. He is fluent in Spanish, and he enjoys hiking and exploring the Bay’s breathtaking scenery. 

First Year Residents

Somayeh Fahimnia

Somayeh Fahim Nia MD, MPH was born and raised in Mashhad, Iran where she began her medical journey by attending medical school. After graduating, she spent six years working as a family physician, caring for patients in both rural and urban settings, and gaining valuable clinical experience. With a growing interest in public health, Somayeh moved to the U.S. and earned an MPH from Mount Sinai in New York, graduating in 2017. She remained in the New York area, taking on various research roles, including a position with the NIDDK at the NIH. Her passion for patient care led her to pursue further training, and she completed a three-year Internal Medicine residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in Bronx, NY, graduating in June 2024. Soon after, she began her Occupational and Environmental Medicine residency at UCSF, where she is advancing her skills by combining her clinical experience with a strong foundation in public health. Her interests include consulting, medical legal, and clinical occupational medicine. 

Aditya Rajan

Aditya Rajan, MD, MPH is from Dallas, Texas and obtained his undergraduate degree in Neuroscience at University of Texas at Dallas. He went to medical school at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas, and started his Internal Medicine residency in Tyler, Texas. After two years of Internal Medicine, he decided to switch programs to Preventive Medicine and Public Health. He completed his residency in the latter in June 2024 and obtained his MPH. He will be completing one year of training in Occupational and Environmental Medicine here at UC San Francisco. His areas of interest are clinical and corporate occupational medicine. 

John Bossalini

John Bossalini, DO, is from Albany, New York, and received his bachelor's degree in biology from the University at Albany. He attended medical school at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. He completed a Transitional Year Internship at Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. After the internship, he spent four years serving as a Flight Surgeon in the U.S. Air Force at Beale Air Force Base in Beale, California. After separating from the military, he worked as the medical director for an occupational medicine clinic in Newport News, Virginia, for 10 months while applying to residency programs in occupational medicine. He is currently pursuing his Master of Public Health at UC Berkeley as part of his first year in the UCSF Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency program. He has an interest in aerospace medicine and private practice.
