Dr. Max Blumberg helped with new California Law

While Dr. Max Blumberg was a UCSF OEM resident, he worked with other house staff leaders from the Committee of Interns and Resident (CIR) Union across the state to sponsor a bill that will reduce mental health stigma for physicians. AB2164 was signed into law by Governor Newsom on September 29th and prohibits the Medical Board of California from asking invasive and discriminatory questions that stigmatize mental healthcare on physician licensure applications. This is an important first step in changing our professional culture so that doctors can seek treatment of mental health conditions without fear of licensure repercussions. Dr. Blumberg also wrote an op-ed published in July in support of the bill, where you can read more.
