Western States PEHSU recognized by CDC and EPA

The Office of the UCSF Chancellor received a letter from the CDC Director and the Federal EPA administrator in July 2024 recognizing the contributions of UCSF to the Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Units (PEHSUs). Over the 25 year history of the program, the PEHSUs-including the Western States PEHSU housed at UCSF-have served as expert sources of information on pediatric environmental health, and have trained the next generation of environmental health leaders.

The Western States PEHSU at UCSF provides coverage for all of Federal Region 9 (California, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Republic of Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, and tribal nations within those areas). The WSPEHSU team is active in education of medical professionals, trainees and members of the public and has particular expertise in wildfire smoke, children's cancer and community engagement. This includes free mobile tools and CE credits for material covering pediatric environmental health

WSPEHSU also maintains a robust webpage and an active social media presence (@WSPEHSU on X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedInYoutube) with a plethora of free resources for clinicians and families.
